

Mission Statement
Showplace Performance Centre is a not-for-profit organization that owns and manages a professional performing arts facility. We endeavor to improve access to a wide variety of cultural events for Peterborough and area residents, which enhances the quality of life for the community.

1992: Eighteen people meet to discuss the need for a Community Theatre in Peterborough; Showplace Peterborough is incorporated.
1994: Showplace is assigned $1.75 million in Canada / Ontario Infrastructure Funding; a capital campaign is launched.
1995: Showplace Peterborough finds a home in downtown Peterborough, in the former Odeon theatre building.
1996: Showplace opens to rave reviews; the City supplies an interest-free loan for bridge financing.
1997: Showplace completes its first year of operation with a small surplus.
1998: A study shows that the economic impact of Showplace on the Peterborough area is $3 million annually.
1999: Showplace pays back the City loan.
2000: The campaign goal is exceeded by more than $20,000 and Showplace burns the mortgage.
2001: Showplace Peterborough is awarded a $179,000 grant from the Federal Government for improvements and technical upgrades.
2002: Showplace Peterborough becomes known as Showplace Performance Centre. Improvements are made to the marquee and to the lounge and bar.
